Dick Armey and I just sent a pro-Health care Reform e-mail to several Blue Dogs who will cast critical votes on Health Care Reform: Jane Harman, Baron Hill, Jim Matheson, Charlie Melancon, Mike Ross and Zack Space. The inspiration to enlist Armey’s help to work for Health Care Reform came from my Twitter pal, Eileenleft.
It was a slight change of pace from my usual method of campaigning, but somehow having Dick’s support made it a little more fun.
You to can have fun with Dick (Armey) and Jane (Harman) at FreedomWorks. Just add a sentence or two, and change some key words: against to for, oppose to support, yes to no, and so on. Or, feel free to copy and paste my letter below into the Freedom Works form, any form supporting Health Care Reform, or into your own letter or e-mail. And let me know if you had fun with Dick and Jane.
Dear Jane,
Total cost, that is cost to the consumer and insured businesses plus cost to government, is on everyone’s mind. Public support for more choice in Health Care options, including a robust and meaningful public option, has been growing significantly the last few weeks. Some of this is due to CBO reports that a Medicare-like public option will save billions per year over plans without such an option. I know that saving our tax dollars is very important to you. I hope that the American people can count on your support for healthcare reform with a Medicare-like public option.
Small businesses can’t afford to insure their employees, or to compete on the global market if they try to insure their employees, without a competitive exchange. Such an exchange needs to be modeled after your own congressional choices, plus contain a strong Medicare-like public option.
True Health Care Reform, as proposed by President Obama, will slow the growth in health care cost, provide affordable insurance for all, and make small businesses more competitive. As our small businesses grow with a healthy workforce, we will export more goods and import fewer. More businesses and taxpaying employees means that tax revenue will rise, and both the deficit and the debt will decline.
Please support our president’s plan to reform health care. Vote yes on a Medicare-like Public Option. Government, small business and individuals will save money by fixing an industry that is unsustainable in its current form. Health care with an emphasis on prevention and insuring everyone, will give us a healthier, more productive population. President Obama’s plan for health care reform is good for business, for the economy, and for national security. It is also the right thing to do.
Warm regards,
Chris and Dick
